Engineering majors in particular have the highest median earnings out of college.
According to a recent report from Georgetown’s Center on Education and the Workforce, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (aka STEM) majors still have the best overall job prospects.

2012 Engineering Income and Salary Survey - link

  • "Engineering continues to be one of the most robust professions," says Thomas G. Loughlin, Executive Director of ASME
  • the unemployment rate among engineers is currently about half the national average.
  • the average total annual income, including commissions and fees, for an engineer in the U.S. in 2012 was $103,497, nearly 4.0% higher than the $99,738 figure reported in the 2011 survey.
